"Although this book is intended for qualitative rather than quantitative researchers, it can be quite useful for both types. Several years ago we studied how antiretroviral therapy altered the impact on older age parents with HIV-infected adult children in Thailand. Although we used a closed-ended questionnaire, we conducted conversational style interviews with dyads of parent and HIV-infected child and of both parents. There is no question that had this book been available at the time to guide our research we would have benefited very substantially from it."

About the Author
David L. Morgan is a professor in the Department of Sociology at Portland State University. He was instrumental in bringing the use of focus groups to social science research and is also one of the leading figures in the use of mixed methods. His books include Focus Groups as Qualitative Research, five volumes of the Focus Group Kit, and Integrating Qualitative and Quantitative Methods.

Helpful, easy-to-read guide

Morgan has written an easy-to-read guide for qualitative researchers interested in a new twist on interviewing. I found it very helpful as I planned my dissertation study, and have begun using Morgan's advice already. Yesterday was my first dyadic interview, and I'm thrilled with the quality of the data gathered. Definitely a method worth considering.
