This volume develops further the analysis of pedagogic discourse initiated in Bernstein's book "Class, Codes and Control". Here he analyses power and control in educational institutions and provides a theoretical model for how the social structures in classrooms and other cultural institutions are involved in the discourse formation of consciousness and identity, social commitments and everyday social interaction. He also provides examples of the pedagogic institutions from different cultures.

Basil Bernstein was the Karl Mannheim Professor of the Sociology of Education, University of London until 1990 when he became Emeritus Professor of the Sociology of Education.

i was hoping for a more essay-like format. better for serious statistical researchers. i found nothing revolutionary or pedagogically useful.
