Mike Berland is the CEO of Edelman Berland, the strategic research and analytics arm of Edelman. His clients have included multinational companies, professional sports leagues, entertainment figures, higher education and cultural institutions, and political leaders. After becoming a fat-burning machine, he experienced a dramatic reduction in weight (and has kept it off), and successfully completed his first New York City Marathon and the 2015 Ironman World Championships in Kona, HI.
Gale Bernhardt is a two-time Olympic coach and leading athletic trainer. She was selected as one of Men’s Fitness magazine’s top six online trainers and is certified as a Level I Coach by USA Cycling and a Level III Coach by USA Triathlon. She has previously served on the USA Triathlon National Coaching Committee.

I flipped the fat burning switch and 12 months later I'm still burning!

I'm a 67 year old woman who has struggled with weight issues for the last 20 years. I've tried practically every diet and weight loss plan. First of all, I am 52 and have been on every diet you can imagine. Secondly, I am an educated and successful businesswoman. While the concept of insulin resistance is not new, there's much to be learned about how to tackle metabolic syndrome which the author tackles head on. The concept of "adding" fat burning foods rather than "restricting" calories caught my attention, along with the concept of interval training which for me is a much more reasonable approach for me given my busy schedule. I was able to review this book prior to print and have lost over 60 pounds. There's a real integrity to the author's own experience and pursuit of a healthier lifestyle that has resonated with me and I feel better than I have in many years. Quick read and some great recipes as well.

Not new Information, BUT has changed my life. Thanks Mike!

Many of the 1 or 2-star reviews point to how Mike is simply re-hashing what has been said before. This does not make this a bad book. I am confident some budding fitness enthusiasts will gain something from this book and find their quality of life improve.
The diet (while certainly not groundbreaking) has truly improved my life. I have more energy throughout my day, sleep better than ever before, and don't feel the need to eat as much. Most importantly I feel a much greater degree of mental clarity in my life. Prior to adopting this 'diet' I had followed a Mediterranean diet and exercised regularly. I had previously lost 30 pounds. After the losing the weight I felt frail and weak and could credit a lot of that weight loss to losing muscle. Despite eating what I presumed to be a healthy diet, I felt worse than before I lost the weight. This time around using the path Mike sets out, I have lost weight (in fat), gained muscle, and feel better than ever.
Lastly, I really appreciate the credibility Mike brings to the table. He is certainly informed on the subject and cites a number of studies to back up his points. I have always been very skeptical of the newest and hottest diet plans. Mike is not in the business of making millions in the diet industry, but in fact is writing the book for the sole purpose of providing an empathetic voice to weight problems that even active people have faced, all while laying out a clear solution.
