Great read

This is the second trilogy for the Heretic series and a definite must read. Cade and his Templars are in the fight of their lives and for our lives, although we don't know it and they don't disappoint. In my opinion, this is the greatest series of Templar fantasy around. Joe Nasisse is one of the best writers for that genre'. Once you get involved in this series it is hard to put down and waiting for Joe to write the next book is hard but so worth the wait.

Second box set on the Templars series. I've read them all and they just keep getting better and better. Waiting for more after completing book 6 and the plot twist near the end. It's a really great buy for both box sets right now. Dive head long into a world of good verses really evil and what it takes to protect us from these darK forces

The stories and the writing are good, but these editions are absolutely riddled with typos, writing mistakes, and continuity errors. What ever happened to proof reading and editors?

'Contrary to what we have been told by the globalization theorists that the world has become deterritorialised and borderless, the past decade has seen an upsurge in the construction of new fences and walls as part of the inter-state borders within the international system. This is largely due to the sense of fear of the "outsider" in a post 9/11 world. Part of this is real, much of it is a social construction which enables governments to justify the establishment of new border fences as a means of keeping out the "alien" and controlling their own territory. The collection of essays in this book highlights diverse aspects of the ways in which walls and fences function in a globalized world, covering regions as far apart as America and Spain, and from the West Bank to Africa. listening skills development: from theory to practice

Listening in Language Learning is probably the most authorative and comprehensive text about listening in a second language that has ever been written with both the applied linguist and language teacher in mind. It covers auditory perception of linguistic processing, including lexical, syntactic and schematic effects, learner inference, collaborative and non-collaborative listening skills and strategies, developing and assessing listening skills, and the placing of listening in a language curriculum. This book may not be the ideal choice for a teacher new to EFL, as there is rather a lot of specialist terminology - so much to the extent that at times I felt that I was reading a linguist's learner dictionary. What I liked best about this book is that it allowed me to focus more clearly and scientifically on creating and evaluating listening tasks for my high school teaching situation, and for that reason alone, the book was worth buying.

N.M. (Norm) Ledgin mixes romance and adventure in his historical fiction, reinforcing recorded events and real people with the logical interaction of their times. He is called upon frequently to speak of the human side of our Third President and, for the University of Kansas's Continuing Education Department, often teaches a course titled "Explaining the Perplexing Thomas Jefferson." He authored the controversial scholarly nonfiction work, Diagnosing Jefferson, in 2000 and a follow-up study--Asperger's and Self-Esteem (2002)--of idiosyncrasies that characterized such geniuses as Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Albert Einstein. As a result, these latter two with Jefferson have been mentioned in literature (House Rules, by Jodi Picoult) and drama (the movie, Adam) in association with Asperger's Syndrome, a neurological condition on the high end of the autism continuum. With the autistic animal scientist Dr. Temple Grandin he has addressed audiences nationally on his findings and has seen his work republished abroad. Historical Imagination

The only thing "historical" about this historical novel is that the author borrowed the names of real people for his characters. For the most part, their words and actions are entirely a figment of the author's imagination. He obviously has a good mind, but certainly not one that can read the minds of others. This book does a great disservice to the understanding of history.

Well Researched and Sentimentally Imaginative Historical Novel

Once I got past my initial shock that in this story Sally is the one who initiated the "affair" - and that Jefferson (in the story) allowed this teenage slave (pretty or not) to call him by his first name practically from the beginning - once I got past all that - I fell in love with this author's fictional tale. His descriptions of the two of them together, like people in love the world over, their (a-hem) "juicy" love scenes, the way she lovingly called him her "Old Man" when he was too old and too unwell for passion, but he loved her being close to him, still "doing her thing" to the "gentle giant" of a man who she cared for and loved deeply. Oh I do hope in real life Thomas and Sally had just this kind of relationship. We know it lasted 38 years, so there HAD to be something genuine and loving between them. I'm a romantic at heart, and I just loved this book...

Not what I expected

I expected more from this book, to be honest. I'm a huge history buff, but this focused only on the supposed relationship between Jefferson and Sally. I had some trouble separating my own historical knowledge from the story's settings and times. Sally's status as a slave seemed largely ignored and she seemed shallow and self-centered much of the time, hence it was difficult to like the character of Sally as presented in this book. Bottom line, I was disappointed but did read the entire book, which isn't something I always do with books that don't hold my attention, so I guess it was okay, just not the fascinating look at the Jefferson/Hemmings relationship I was expecting.

Beneath the smooth surface of this mostly polite exchange, according to Harvard education professor Lawrence-Lightfoot, lurk ancestral ghosts and ancient psychological themes, a turbulent mix of fears, anxieties, drives and biases that both parties bring to the table. Add to this the vectors of race, class, gender, culture and language, and you have a set of complex and passionate dynamics that often have as much to do with the adults' desires and needs as with those of the children. Parents and teachers have a lot to learn from each other, says Lawrence-Lightfoot, and these essential conversations are a crucial if neglected aspect of children's educational success. Essential to any teacher

I bought this because because every teacher needs some help working alongside parents. I have yet to have a class (undergraduate/graduate) where we have been taught how to collaborate with parents. This is not a list of what to and what to not do with parents. Instead, this book shares many personal accounts of both teachers and parents.
As I work toward my doctoral degree, I will remember this book as a text in my teacher-training classes.

Good substitute for the 3rd edition book

I used this book for a financial statement analysis course in my MBA program. Although the 3rd edition was the required text, I decided to save some money and use this one instead. Although the end of the chapter problems didn't really match those in the 3rd edition (especially questions dealing with company's financial statements), the content in the 1st edition was pretty much the same as the 3rd edition. So you could pretty much get by with using the 1st edition in a course that requires the 3rd edition as long as you can get the end of the chapter problems from someone with the 3rd edition text. The book starts off with the financial statement concepts that one may have learned in a basic financial accounting course, but goes into more detail in later chapters. Recommended for those who wish to understand a little more of the details that go into financial statements.

About the Author

Professor Charles Wyman has devoted most of his career to leading advancement of technology for biological conversion of cellulosic biomass to ethanol and other products that will reduce our excessive dependence on petroleum. A substantial portion of this research is directed at advancing technologies for the most expensive and critical unit operations: pretreatment and cellulose and hemicellulose hydrolysis. Professor Wyman is Chair in Environmental Engineering at the Center for Environmental Research and Technology and Professor in Chemical and Environmental Engineering at the University of California at Riverside.

Read this before purchasing a used book between $3 and $20 and make sure CD is included, it's the only way to take the practice

Great book but make sure you purchase it with the CD, which has all the practice exams. Without the CD all you have are the test answers in the back of the book. Taking the practice tests is where you are going to spend most of your time and get the most benefit out of this book! Also be careful buying this book from the sellers who are listing it at between $3--$20 as they likely are not including the CD. Also look for the 2013 edition rather than the 2012, I know the 2013 works great if you are planning to take the test anytime before 2016. One more thing, I would recommend buying a book without highlighting in it as it can throw you off as to where you need to focus and limit your own ability to really learn and what you are reading. Good luck, I just took the test at the end of April and passed on my first try, couldn't have done it without this book. The flash cards were also very helpful!

Good book but lacking in some information

Its a good book to study for the basics in the NPTE exam, I passed the exam with my first attempt. The musculoskeletal section is especially weak compared to the O'sullivan book. The Neurology and research section are probably the best part of the book.Overall, it is a good starting book to read if you are preparing for the exams, I would recommend that you read the O'sullivan book also, as a lot of information is included in that book compared to this one which seems to skim over stuff. The information is well presented in tables and in highlighted colorful sections with emphasis on important information to know for the exam. i would recommend this book as a starting book but read the O'sullivan as well.

Basically what I expected - minor discrepancies noted

Outlines material expected on the PT exam. Pretty much what I expected it to be, no surprises (good or bad).

I did notice some small discrepancies, such as the book stating that the deep peroneal nerve innervates the lumbricals and interossei in the feet. I'd recommend that if you're uncertain about content in this book, to double check it with a PT textbook. I verified a few errors already.

His acclaimed biography, Johnny Cash - The Life Of An American Icon, was published in 2003. He lives in Edinburgh and is married with four children.

Dolly's dreams started when she woke up ...

Little girls often dream of fame and glory at night, but Dolly had bigger dreams than most. It must have been difficult to dream when life itself was almost crowded out by eleven siblings, a father who enjoyed taking a nip now and then and a mother who certainly had little time to nurture the fantasy life of a precocious youngster. Sevierville County, Tennessee wasn't exactly a thriving metropolis and no one was going to come knocking at the Parton's door to listen to a little whippersnapper sing her heart out, but there were people who did believe in her and one of them was her uncle, Bill Owens. Dolly's dreams would take her far beyond the Smoky Mountains and, as she later maintained, "her dreams started when she woke up."

Stephen Miller, author of the mesmerizing new biography of Dolly, Smart Blonde: Dolly Parton, struggled to look beyond the glitz and the gaudy to discover an intelligent and extremely talented woman. As a young girl many children shunned her and their parents, naturally, didn't want their children hanging around with someone with such loose morals. Childhood wasn't easy for her. As she later claimed, "I was the most popular girl in the school for all the wrong reasons . . . I had a foxy personality." She neglected to add the word "brains," but the combination of all her assets later dropped her into the world of country music like a ten-ton atom bomb.

After meeting her future husband Carl Dean and the Wishy-Washy Laundromat her life started moving faster than the spin cycle on a Maytag. Her talent began to blossom and Dolly began to leave them all in the dust, including the talented Porter Wagoner. Not all that glitters is gold and this intensely private woman began to experience some problems associated with fame. Why did Porter want to sue her? Was there anything to the rumor that her pal Judy Ogle was more than just an assistant? Did her purported abandonment of her family lead to animosity later on? The infamous sister Stella had a few things to say about her sister . . .

According to Steve Buckingham, "If you like Dolly you have to take the deep thinking Dolly, the great musician Dolly, the incredible songwriting Dolly, along with the glitzy Dolly, the corny Dolly, the showgirl; I mean it's all her."

As a Dolly Parton neophyte, I found this book extremely fascinating, well written and found myself thinking if this book were an authorized biography it would be an excellent choice. Miller was able to glean tidbits from Dolly's sister Stella that would interest even the most skeptical know-it-all. The star stalkers of the world may find little in this book they don't already claim to know, but the average reader will come away with a sense of awe, wonder and respect for one of the century's most talented musical icons. My own journey through the book was complimented and enjoyed by several trips to youtube to watch numerous clips of Dolly throughout the years. I used to race quickly between radio dials to avoid country music, but artists like Dolly Parton gave pause to this habit and books like this one can make anyone stop and take note. This book is well worth the money and will provide many hours of affordable entertainment.

Skeptical at first.

I read Smart Blonde immediately after reading Dolly's autobiography, My Life and Other Unfinished Business. I felt Steven Miller
simply used the Dolly Parton book to tap into the money base of the Dolly fans all over the world.

In part, this is correct, however the book is factual with references to its numerous sources. Mr. Miller states in the beginning
that very few people close to Dolly would talk to him. It seems there is always one relative willing to speak up for
their own advantage and Miller leans on Stella Parton's comments and point of view frequently. It also relies on Dolly's autobiography,
which weakened the book and again capitalized on the Dolly label. There were other more comprehensive and informative articles
that were not included in this book. Further research on the making of the Trio II album had a much clearer picture of
the conflict involved between the three artists and how this affected the actual construction of the music.

This book does emphasize Dolly's business smarts and acheivements in an objective way.

Dolly Parton is an amazing, creative woman with great business instincts and foresight that has set
her apart from any musician on the planet and paved the way for other women to follow. This book
will show you how this came about. With that, I would still recommend to read Dolly's autobiography
with it.

Looking at An American Original!

Think what you will of Dolly Parton but she is definitely an American original. Born into abject poverty in Tennessee, she had the soul of a poet and vocal cords to match. Her driving ambition and saavy helped her climb the entertainment ladder and become a major figure not just in country music but in American life. Stephen Miller details the life and career of this smart, talented and altogether unique woman in this 2008 Omnibus Press release.

In some 380-odd pages, author Miller examines all aspects of the Dolly phenomenon. He does a fine job of relating her early life, her marriage to Carl Dean, her country music breakthrough with Porter Wagoner, her solo career and subsequent success in music, movies and other venues. Like certain other celebrities - Johnny Carson comes to mind - Parton has created a bubble of privacy over certain parts of her life. This means, among other things, that close friends and business asssociates would not talk to Miller nor the lady herself. For a 'Tennessee hillbilly,' Parton really has done an amazing job of manipulating the media machine over the past 40 years and continues to do so. And, because of that, Miller's portrait of Dolly Rebecca Parton, while insightful and fascinating, is incomplete.

In the end, the reader feels admiration for Parton who has created so many beautiful songs, touched so many hearts and been so successful in the music business yer has endeared herself to legions of fans. She's easily one of the most successful self-made women in America. Yet, you wonder about the price of that success. She offers no apologies about feeling the need for and having various plastic surgery procedures. Viewing photographs of her over the years however leaves a feeling of sadness. In her early days Parton was a lovely woman, a natural beauty. Now her face is an advertisement of the dangers of plastic surgery. Was all that pain worth it?

In any case, SMART BLONDE is an informed and insightful look at an American musical treasure. Long after people stop talking about her wigs or breasts, they'll remember the touching songs sung by that one-in-a-million voice. Recommended.
