He is interested in using ideas from statistics and data mining to solve problems in marketing, information systems, and operations management. Dr. Jank has authored over seventy refereed articles, book chapters and conference papers. He has  co-authored two books, Statistical Methods in e-Commerce Research and Modeling Online Auctions.

I read this for Dr. Jank's graduate level course Statistical Data Mining and it was very useful. I would recommend this book.

Not for regular reading

This book is not well written as an independent resource guide. It must be taken in conjunction with the course and reader must have access to the data mentioned within the book. It does not explain concepts very well for beginners and requires reader to use R and have familiarity with R. It attempts to provide a structure as a teaching method but falls flat on that front. I wanted so much from this book but ultimately it does not deliver - probably better alternatives out there. However if this is your course required book and you've never taken R then you may want to purchase an additional book such as a beginner's guide to R or take an introductory course to R before taking this course.

Excellent book on creating predictive data models

In business, it can be vital to able to anticipate what will happen in the future. Jank's book takes you through the process of developing data models that make this possible. These models range from the most simple to the complex.

Although creating these models requires the use of statistics, Jank does a good job of making the subject understandable to the layman. He resists excess use of jargon, and I found the book easy to read. This does not in the least mean that the book is a fluff piece. It is easy to follow, but it walks through a statistical minefield, and so must be read closely.

My only critique is that a little more eye candy would probably make the book appeal to a larger audience.

The Messerschmitt Bf 110 was the Luftwaffe s prime multi-role heavy fighter. By the time Germany invaded Poland on September 1, 1939, 10 Luftwaffe Gruppen had been equipped with this heavy fighter. However, as a long-range escort fighter, the Bf 110C received a disastrous mauling at the hands of the more nimble Hurricane and Spitfire during the "Battle of Britain". Rather than protecting the bombers under escort, the Bf 110C formations usually found that they were hard-pressed to defend themselves, and the farcical situation developed in which single-seat Bf 109E fighters were having to afford protection to the escort fighters. The complete failure of the Bf 110C in the role for which it had been conceived led to its eventual withdrawal from the Channel coast but did not result in any reduction in its production priority.
Author John Vasco has researched a wealth of new material on the B, C, D and E variants of this aircraft, including many previously unpublished photographs and high-quality artwork and color profiles. This detailed examination of the aircraft will be an invaluable work of reference to historians and modelers of the Bf 110.

I love books like this...

...filled with photos and drawings, minutely detailing what the difference is, say, between a Bf 110C-2 and a Bf 110C-3. With captions that detail features that, even though they've been pointed out, still sometimes take a long look to discern.

As the other reviewers have noted this is a superb book, an obvious labor of love by author Vasco who seems determined to know more about the Bf 110 than anyone else. He seems to have succeeded admirably.

About the only complaint that can be made is that Vasco didn't cast his net wide enough, not going back to the early prototypes or forward to the specialized night fighters. But that is unfair quibbling; the book is precisely what the title proclaims - an illustrated study of the Bf 110C, D, and E. A definitive book that we've come to expect from the Classic line.

Impressive Nuts-and-Bolts Guide to Early Bf 110s!

Luftwaffe fans should enjoy this detailed technical study of Messerschmitt's 110 'destroyer' published by Ian Allan in 2008. Noted author John Vasco and illustrator Fernando Estanislau offer up 192 pages of photos, profiles and diagrams detailing the C, D and E models. It's quite an impressive package, a real treasure trove devoted to Messerschmitt's twin-engined heavy fighter.

After a short history of the pre-war B model, the authors describe each sub-type in detail in succeeding chapters from C-1, C-2, etc. through E-3. To illustrate the coverage found in Vasco's book, the section on the Bf 110D-0 devotes nine pages to the portly - and deadly to its crews -'Dackelbauch' model with two color side-views, a G.A. drawing from the Bf 110 manual and 14 photos! Short chapters round out the book, describing converted nightfighter variants, camouflage and markings, servicing the Bf 110, etc.

The book is packed with hundreds of black & white and color wartime photographs including many reproductions from manufacturer manuals. Estanislau's numerous color illustrations furnish full-profile and close-up views of airframes, engines, equipment, weapons, differences between various models, and so on. Estanislau's artwork is on a par with that of Tom Tullis, 'nough said!

Though almost all the profiles depict unpainted aircraft, Estanislau includes five color pages showing basic schemes; the numerous photos providing a good overview of the camouflage schemes carried by the early models.

If you're interested in the Bf 110 at war, you'll need to look elsewhere. But, if you're a modeller or a nuts-and-bolts airplane enthusiast, MESSERSCHMITT BF 110 C, D AND E will be just what the doctor ordered. It's pricey at $54.95 but the book is well worth it. Recommended.

Bf-110 technical details source

Highly detailed and useful book. Don't be put off by the fact that the artist's color profiles are of unfinished primered aircraft (no camouflage or tactical markings). Their purpose to shown the physical aspects of the various different model types and they do this very well without being "painted over" as it were. I just hope there is a second volume delving into the F and G models also. It this one. I fills a nitch in any comprehensive reference collection.

It is with this hope in mind that The Bible Teacher's Guide (BTG) series has been created. The series includes both expositional and topical studies. This guide will be useful for teachers who are preparing to lead small groups or give sermons, or for an individual's devotional study.

About the Author
Greg Brown earned his MA in religion and MA in teaching from Trinity International University, an MRE from Liberty University, and a PhD in theology from Louisiana Baptist University. He has served over ten years in pastoral ministry and currently serves as Chaplain and Assistant Professor at Handong Global University, pastor at Handong International Congregation, and as a Navy Reserve chaplain. Greg married his lovely wife Tara Jayne in 2006, and they have one daughter, Saiyah Grace. He enjoys going on dates with his wife, playing with his daughter, reading, writing, studying in coffee shops, working out, and following the NBA and UFC. Game Changer

This book is a great resource to Bible teachers and small groups, but it is so simple that anyone could read it and gain understanding. That is one of the things I love the most about this book, is it’s accessibility.
The Biblical principles of leadership that Gregory Brown explores and expands on from the book of Nehemiah have the potential to change the world. If every leader would allow the principles in this book to shape their lives and leadership styles, we would see a great change, and even as Brown suggests many times, revival.
“Jesus said when the church is unified, we will see many souls come to Christ; the world will know that Jesus came from God…Sadly, most ministries swing to the other extreme. Most churches and ministries work very independently. In fact, they are often so worried about losing members that they never work with other churches at all. However, when you look at the early church, which also experienced revival, they were very unified.”
After reading this book, I can confidently state that Brown is a brother in the Lord that wants to see the lives of many transformed by the love of God through servant leadership. He discusses important topics such as unity, dealing with discouragement, leading by example, serving even when we don’t like the job or feel qualified, the importance of dealing with conflict instead of overlooking it, and how to deal properly with the provision God has given us.
This book would a blessing to any believer that wants more clarity on what it means to faithfully serve Jesus Christ, whether they are in leadership or not.

To be read and re-read

If you are a leader, an aspiring leader or if you are forming leaders, and you desire to let God lead through you, this book is for you. Like in all of Pastor Brown's books, every point is supported by Scripture. The writing is clear, concise and easy, and the questions walk you through the book while helping you see your thoughts and ideas in the light of God's Word (and by the way, it personally helps me to answer the questions plainly and honestly, without trying to elaborate). The way this book is organized works well for personal devotions as well as for small groups: each characteristic of a godly leader is studied along with supporting Scripture and application questions.
And if you think godly leadership is not a topic for you, think again. God may be calling you to lead a unit as small as a family. Or you may be raising leaders in your house, in your classroom, etc. I am not the type that assertively takes on leadership positions, but this book did remind me of the dire need for godly leaders in this world, and of the importance of training to be a godly leader. Who knows, God may train you through this book and then call you to raise or to be a leader.

"A leader is made by what he does in solitude, and a leader is broken down by what he does in solitude." (p.49)

How is it that a book written centuries ago can teach us how to live well today and tomorrow? As I watch the story of Nehemiah unfold before my eyes, Greg provides profound insights from both the Old and New Testaments. I learn the characteristics of godly leaders, and solutions for problems plaguing our families, churches and nations.

This book is accessible, even conversational, in tone, yet Greg clearly reverences God and His Word as he exhorts us to “servant leadership.” The applications he draws from Scripture apply to all of us, whatever our station in life.

I appreciate his clear stance that although a godly leader exposes sin in others, “we must be aware of our [own] sin and constantly repenting of it” (p. 29). I find this to be a balanced treatment. Greg neither prescribes a “holier than thou” attitude, nor excuses sin by calling it by another name. Neither does he embrace the extremes of the “I am beautiful. I am loved,” movement that almost seems to deny the possibility of sin in the believer.

Greg’s on our team. “You have a very specific role,” he tells us, and provides powerful principles for battling discouragement and slander, resolving conflict, and coping with prosperity that apply to any type of Christian service.

About the Author
Roger Meredith is a Chartered Engineer and a graduate of the University of Bristol in Electrical Engineering. He received his practical training at the British-Thomson Houston Co., Rugby, joining the radar engineering department in 1953. Over the next 15 years he was concerned with all aspects of microwave engineering in radar systems, including high power transmitters. In 1968 he formed Magnetronics Ltd, specialising in industrial microwave energy through the design and manufacture of process equipment. In the late 1980s the company was acquired by APV Ltd. He took early retirement in 1992 and is now consultant to selected clients. He has presented several papers at international conferences and is co-author of Industrial Microwave Heating (IEE, 1983). He served with the British National Committee for Electroheat for many years and is inventor of several patents on microwave topics.

A number of lives intertwine, such as that of the trader boy Jayge Lilcamp, whose family is almost destroyed when his father refuses to believe the first Thread warning. Jayge runs afoul of Thella, sister of the Telgar Hold lord but a malcontent and leader of renegades, when she tries to kidnap the refugee girl Aramina, who can hear all dragons. There are dragons all over Anne McCaffrey's house. Some she's bought, but many have been made for her by adoring fans and given to her as gifts. I don't make dragons, of course. But whenever circumstances allow, I do try to bring her American bacon, something she can't get easily in Ireland, and something which she has taught all her friends there to love, as well! I remember the first time I went to visit her, when she was still living in her old, much smaller but very homey, house. My husband and I arrived at the doorstep, and she immediately began bustling about, frying up some of the bacon we'd brought and sharing a lovely late breakfast with us before sending us off to the hotel for a nap. She made us dinner that night, too--the one and only time in my life that I've actually liked shrimp cocktail. Maybe that's because if you squint your eyes and look sideways, shrimp are kind of dragonlike, and I was eating them in the right company!

Pern readers, don't miss this one!

When I first read this book, years ago, I remember being a little disappointed. It wasn't as good as the Dragonflight trilogy or even as good as the Harper Hall trilogy. I'm re-reading the series in chronological order now, and I want to warn people not to listen to the negative reviews!
Yes, it's maybe not quite as enjoyable, it tells stories of the less-pleasant sides of Pern life, but it also tells things that you must hear if you want the whole story. You must read Renegades in order to be properly set up for All the Weyrs of Pern. This is the book that, if nothing else, tells more about the initial excavation of Landing and the discovery of AIVAS, and it introduces Jayge and Aramina of the Paradise River Hold from Dolphins of Pern.
I enjoyed this book more on second reading than I did the first time. The Pern series is five stars. If you enjoy the series, don't skip this four star book based on negative reviews.

A Little Choppy, But Still a Good Read!

As long as the people of Pern could remember, dragons had fought Thread and kept people alive. Everyone lived in strong stone fortresses or caves because Thread wouldn't eat through stone. However, it had been hundreds of years since Thread had fallen on Pern and there were many who did not like to live behind stone walls, beholden to the Lord of the area and forced into careers that they did not want. Some, like Jayge Lilcamp's clan were traders. They traversed the length and breadth of Pern, bartering and taking messages to other holds. They were always welcome at holds, especially ones that were out of the way. However, when they ignored the warning that Thread was once again falling on Pern, his trader caravan was decimated. Instead of being independent, they were now forced to accept whatever charity they could from the last hold the visited. Jayge couldn't bear it and set out on his own.
Thella, sister of Telgar Hold's Lord, was bitter that she had not even been given the chance to become a Lady Holder. She knew that she could do a better job than her brother. Since she was passed by, she found her own hold and gathered together as many Holdless men as she could. Then she set about robbing and plotting her revenge. The only thing that was holding her back was the dragonriders because she could not risk being seen and tracked adragonback. She found the solution to her problem in Aramina (seen in The Girl Who Heard Dragons short story), who could hear all dragons. But Aramina escaped from her and was safely ensconced at Benden Hold. However, Thella was not about to give up so easily...
The Renegades of Pern is, like Nerilka's story, a retelling of familiar events from unfamiliar points of view. I highly recommend reading Dragonquest, The White Dragon, and The Girl Who Heard Dragons before reading this one because it will make a lot more sense than reading this one first. It was interesting because all of the other books in the Pern series have been about someone who has a definite place in life on Pern: holder, dragonrider, harper, etc., but Jayge did not. He could do a little bit of everything and was very resourceful. I enjoyed hearing how Aramina made out in the end, even though I was very surprised at what ended up happening. Although Jayge, Aramina, and Thella were what I would call the "main" characters, there was also quite a bit about Piemur and Toric, Holder of the Southern Continent, and the explorations and events taking place in at Southern, which was interesting. My main complaint with the book was the huge number of multiple viewpoints. It really made the book choppy and I know that I really wanted to find out what happened to a certain character and then was suddenly switched to someone else, which is kind of frustrating. Still, The Renegades of Pern is very informative and it was interesting to see things from a very different point of view. Recommended for readers of the Pern series - if you are new to the series, this is NOT the book to start with!

Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful book!

This book, although confusing in the beginning, is a worthy link between The White Dragon and All The Weyrs. It is almost a summary of the first three books, starting before Dragonflight, and ending just before All The Weyrs. A must read for all Pern fans. All the Weyrs won't make sense without it. A truely wonderful book.
