A must-read to strengthen or heal your marriage

This book gives hope, practical help and encouragement for anyone either married or getting ready to get married. Understand the dynamics of how a work relationship or another innocuous friendship can turn harmful fast - and how to prevent it or stop it in its tracks.

It's not just for the relationship-challenged

I stumbled upon this book and it sparked thoughts of a buried area of discontent in my 20 year relationship with my husband – his irritability when I have after work dinner or a drink with any younger male business colleague. While I would be hesitant to have that type of interaction with a male my age or older, I find that I drop the protocol because I relate to all younger males as younger brothers since I was raised with a house of them.

The Bakers’ insightful and detailed book gave me a better understanding of the dynamics between my husband, myself, and possibly the younger males. Will I still socialize with them? Yes, but going forward I’d set in place some pre-emptive boundaries and have at least one more person present. Read the book and you’ll understand it’s not because I can’t or the other person can’t be trusted. The Bakers’, in a non-judgmental way, layout the subtle issues involved despite pure intentions.

The book also served as a catalyst to reopen the conversation with my husband and the outcome was very positive. While we’ve both been physically and emotionally faithful to each other, the faithful piece does get wobbly at times such as conversations with my sister. I’m now a wiser and more supportive wife thanks to this book – and all along I thought I was pretty darn good. Every marriage, even strong ones, would benefit from this book.

This book should be read by everyone who is married or considering getting married which is just about everyone. With about half of all marriages ending in divorce, porn flooding the net, and dating sites being used by married people to have affairs, the best way to keep from having an affair and ruining your life is to nip it in the bud. So "affair proof" your life by reading this book and applying the principles laid out in a very easy to read manner. Definitely worth the download.

Excellent Introduction

I am half-way through this book and realize that I have used Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM) for years. This was the approach we used because of HAZOP studies. If you look at the methodology, they are the same. It is an excellent book for first-pass economics of preventive maintenance (PM). Through numerous examples, he shows when to PM, when you are spending too much for PM, and when to just run the damn thing 'til it breaks. As I said, it is a great introduction. I have picked up Doc Palmer's book and can see I would be lost without preparation. If there are any short-comings, it is grammar and spelling. There are numerous typographical errors. Most engineers seem to have taken an-engineer's only english class in college. I found the errors troubling but the writing clear and concise. A very good book for a refresher (as in my case), or an introduction.

Don't waste your time.. this book is told in dry manner and has no ending

This book was bizarre and very extreme. I guess if you are into the BDSM lifestyle it might be titillating. However it seemed O was basically very disturbed and only liked the torture because it meant that she was pleasing her master. The one she loves gives her away to his brother Sir Stephen... The relationship between the two brothers can only be described as vague and bizarre. By far the worst part of the book was then ending or rather the lack of one. The author apparently never finished the book and it is just left for you to guess what the ending is. All in all I would say don't waste your time. It does not have the heat and sexual tension provided in the Fifty Shades of Grey Series.

Bought this for my wife after she read the 50 shades books and then several other similar books. This is by far the most sexual of them all, but still a good read and I actually read a few chapters, which I haven't of any of the other books she reads.

One of those must-reads

This is one of those books that should be read just because it cannot fail to provoke a reaction in the reader. I felt the earlier part of the book had a very authentic ring to it (as if the author was recounting personal experiences blended with fantasy) and became less and less convincing as the plot moved on. The ending is logical (in terms of the "point" the author appears to want to make) but, I thought, hollow, inauthentic and disappointing. Some of the practises described in the book are implausible and dangerous (eg, whipping her belly), but others ring true and provoked, in me, a great deal of arousal. This is an incredibly erotic book: being both subtle and explicit, perverse and well-written. Some readers are likely to find that it opens doors of perception for them (that is, the eroticisation of pain and degradation), others will be left cold and think it a very silly book. As long as you are over 18 you will probably get something out of it, one way or the other, and it is worth a buy. Also note - the book is quite different from the movie in some crucial respects.

I have to say that strategic marketing can be a mystery even to those who are trained and well versed in the subject. This book, written by a professor who now teaches and gives seminars on the subject is thoughful and well-written. Even for someone who just wants to understands the basics of management will benefit from reading this book. Sure, it's older but the basics simply make sense. I recommend this to someone who wants to go one level higher with strategies, but who already understands the concepts behind marketing.

LIAM FAHEY, an Adjunct Professor of Strategic Management at Babson College and Visiting Professor of Strategic Management at the Cranfield School of Management, consults for leading North American and European firms on competitive strategy and analysis. A frequent speaker in executive education programs and business management conferences, he is the author of Competitors (Wiley, 1999).

If you're in business to WIN, read this book!

Strategy and tactics are essential to all entrepreneurs wanting to not only be successful, but to win! Playing to win is a mindset as pointed out in the April 2004 Harvard Business Review - "Hardball: Five Killer Strategies for Trouncing the Competition." In "The Portable MBA Guide to Strategy" you will learn to formulate and execute effective marketplace strategies that enable you to transform your ideas into marketplace reality.

Divided into four parts, numerous experts expound upon what is strategy and how to use it to win in business:

Part One - Strategy: Winning in the Marketplace

Part Two - Strategy Inputs: Analyzing the External and Internal Environments

Part Three - Strategy Making: Identifying and Evaluating Strategic Alternatives

Part Four - Managing Strategic Change: Linking Strategy and Action

If you went to business school, this will be a great refresher. If not, this book will cover all the bases and create a solid strategic foundation applicable to the real world.

It's hard for me to say where to start; The Portable MBA is a cornucopia of indispensable knowledge. Chapter 5, Strategy for the Small Business seems like a logical place to start. And, if you're looking for funding, pay close attention to Box 5.4 on p. 124 for key questions to ask yourself. Chapter 6 on Digital Strategy is also compelling in its own right. While much of the book applies to larger entities, it is wise to study the material for two reasons; 1) It will help you learn how to build your company and 2) Studying larger competitors is tantamount to military generals learning the ways of their adversaries.

An Underground Classic !

I could have devoured this book in a day, but felt it deserved much more attention. So I read it ( the first time ) over the course of 3 months to really sit with the characters and get a feel for their background, role, and essence. I'm so glad I did because the development of each one as the book progressed got juicier and juicier ! Being somewhat familiar with trauma based mind control and it's disturbing tentacles led me to this novel. For me, the story reflects pop culture's careful orchestration and manipulation to extract as much money as possible, by siphoning God-given talent and reshaping it into "artistry" that defies our morals, all the while indoctrinating the unsuspecting masses into their next "this is what's cool" phase. G.E. Butler weaves a very intricate tapestry into the lives of many players who, despite their self-proclaimed entitlement, eventually have to deal with the concept of being just another pawn in a game they do not understand.
My feeling is that this book is a seed that is carefully placed in the underground and as the reality of our contrived pop culture surfaces the roots of Soul'd Out will take hold deeper and deeper. Years from now this book will be looked at as ahead of it's time and simply waiting for us to catch up in consciousness, hopefully allowing us to conceive of the techniques that forces controlling the multi-billion dollar music industry use in the deepest recesses of it's underbelly.

I can't put this book down!!!

From the first sentence you are drawn into this engrossing novel. Vivid character descriptions, an insider-like look at the contemporary music industry, and the riveting plot twists of the strong female protagonists make this a must read. Clearly this writer is on the inside track of the entertainment industry, as the portrayal of the base and Bacchanalian lifestyles of musicians and artists is so over the top it can only be real. I, seriously, could not put this book down, I kept sneaking off to read more because I was dying to know more about Beatrice,Tammy, William, Nic and how the whole cast of characters intertwined.

This was a very interesting book. Once I got past all the different back stories I couldn't put the book down. Soul'd Out made me really evaluate the music I've been listening to and what artist I shoose to support in the future. I don't advise anyone to read this on kindle buy the book.
